The GEORGIAN BAY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB NEWS

March 1974

#5

Executive
President Jim Vamplew VE3CRV
Vice Pres. Dick Shave VE3BIS
Sec. Tres Jack Avis VE3DTS

Editor Bill VE3EFX MARCH 1974

The club meeting on February 13th opened at 8pm with 17 members and 3 visitors present. After the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved the Sec/Treas. intimated that a grand total of $94.11 was in the club coffers.

The visitors, Charlie Noakes G3UHR, his XYL, and daughter introduced themselves to the meeting and Charlie said that he hopes to be on the air from Kincardine with a VE3 call soon.

The first and most important item on the agenda was the presentation of the proposed constitution to the membership, by Harvey VE3FOT. To Harvey's credit, the constitution was approved unanimously and a large vote of thanks is due to him for the excellent effort which has produced a constitution that the club will be proud of. Club members who want a copy of the club constitution should send a large (9x5) S.A.S.E. and I suggest that you put at least 14c on to placate the post office. It would be too costly for the club to mail out 50 copies when each member may not want one, so they will be sent on request only.

It was decided to hold the next meeting on the third THURSDAY in March which is the 21st., at 7.3O pm in the C.I.A.G. Computer Bldg.

The G.B.A.R.C. net is on 3.783 Mhz at 14.30 z Sunday. Tune in and get turned on.

The club repeater VE3OSR is on 146.34Mhz in and 146.94Mhz out with good coverage as far as Bracebridge , Mount Forrest , and Tiverton.

100 Kc CRYSTAL STANDARD

The crystal oscillator shown above is suitable for the club members who are using general coverage receivers with questionable calibration. It can be put together in a very short time and installed inside the set or fitted at the back near the antenna terminal.

After the exchange of letters duplicated at the end of this newsletter I had a meeting with the supervisor of the Kincardine post office. He agreed with my comments on the service and has promised to watch closely the progress of this issue from the time I mail it. You can do your part by returning the stamped cover to me if you feel the newsletter took too long to reach you.

Dave VE3DXO expects to have a movie for the meeting, no details of the title but the last one was very interesting.

We have an offer of a Field Day site at the country seat of VE3HP up near Tobermory. I think it would be an excellent location but I'd like to hear what you think, so be at the meeting and we'll discuss it there.

I have confirmation of our illustrious President being accepted as a Life member of the Radio Society of Ontario, congratulations Jim.

As the president returns from Hawaii, THE VICE PRESIDENT LEAVES FOR FLORIDA. Have a good trip Dick, and bring your tan to the meeting.

The March meeting will be your chance to discuss Field Day preparations. It will be decided 1.Where to hold the operation. 2.How many stations will be put on. 3. Who will operate the stations and on what basis. If you can't be at the meeting, write to VE3EFX , Box 19O, Tiverton. Then we can hear your views and ideas on the subject. I will outline the rules and conditions of the contest at the meeting.

The Canadian Amateur Radio Federation publishes the Canadian Radio Regulations Handbook, containing the "official" interpretation of the radio regulations as they pertain to Radio Amateurs. If you want a copy send $2.55 to C.A.R.F.

Are you a member of the Radio Society of Ontario ? If not, why not? Contact VE3EFX for membership application forms and/information. R.S.O. is a member society of C.A.R.F. If you don't support it there must be a reason.

Cy VE3DQA reports that a new repeater VE5MDT is on now from London on 34/94.

How about one of the club amateurs taking a crack at net control on the C.J. Net? I take it every Sunday and would like to have somebody do it on alternate weeks. It will only take up one hour of your time, 6.30- 7.30pm' every two weeks and will give good operating experience in traffic net operation.

VE3EFX's traffic total for the S.E.T. in January was : 1 originated, 2- delivered, and 5- relayed. Apart from VE3BSF where was everybody else?
